The Archives Information

Referred to in my Reflective Journal as 'The Archives', this, is my Information File. It reads from top to bottom, older posts at the top, newer at the end, reading through my research to develop the project. I hope you enjoy and can see the clear links between this and both my Sketchbook and Reflective Journal.

H.G. Wells

After a smidge of library research I decided that this should be the starting point for this project, the Eloi and Morlocks will be interesting to show the strange places, because not only is it strange for the time traveller, but it is strange to either species.

I have read the book before and I will use my memories as well as the actual book as references for this

The book online is here

Tim Burton

I had watched Coraline for reference, the film by Henry Selick, and I though the style would be fantastic for the project so I did some research on both him and Tim Burton and I found loads of images that I found really interesting, these are from the books Tim Burton and Burton on Burton (turns out Selick doesn't have any books out):

I love the media he uses and I will explore with these for my sketchbook, I also love the ornaments, and I think I will give these a go as well.

Memoirs of a Geisha

I was watching Memoirs of a Geisha as research, and overall it really is fantastic, the cinematography and lighting in particular. I found that the dance sequence of Sayuri really envelops both the colourings that I am loving at the moment with the gothic, more darker twist. As a visual reference, this is the scene;

3x Designers

Once I had illustrated my initial ideas, three designs immediately came to mind

Yves Saint Laurent - Long Wedding Dress - Haute Couture 1965

Giles Deacon - The Egg Twin - Autumn / Winter 2009 / 10

image from Wool Modern exhibition in London - the booklet

Both of those designers I saw at the wool modern, but the third designer won the Espirit competition a while back:

Victoria Hill - Style 3

it is the egg-like shape of these that I really link to my illustration, I haven't yet thought of any designer references to the Morlock yet, but I am sure I will find one soon

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The newer version of the film also has the plastic look that I have been looking at, that is incredibly 'Burton' I think this is the best reference for one of his films as it combines the plastic white with plastic dark. Nearly all the film was a great reference for me.

Margin of Error

I found a video on the Fashion Communication and Promotion website from Central Saint Martins called Margin of Error by Greg French and Molly Zinar, it is amazingly edited and filmed and I find it incredibly inspiring for my project because of that, it incorporates a lot of the ideas I have expressed in my reflective journal so far and it visualises them in an incredibly well-made way

Inception

The cinematography in this film is amazing and the editing is very inspiring, there is no way I can do anything that complicated as that, for me is the best version of computer generated imagery (CGI) because it is so very realistic. However the tints of colouring is very inspiring, I like how the slight tint is added just after filming as well as some in lighting, the only way I know this is in parts it reflects off the skin.

John Galliano

I struggled to come up with a menswear designer for a while, but I remembered from the Wool Modern that John Galliano a/w 2007/8 was perfect, so here are my photos of the outfit.
